We currently have over 150 members and 100 members active!
The year was 1994 when a small group of friends, sharing the commonality of “the thrill of the ride”, were hanging out in the Fairmount Park section of Philadelphia, PA. They stood at the Plateau, affectionately known as the “Plat”, and decided to officially unite under the name of Double Lyte Posse (DLP). The name of the club was derived from the fact that all of the founding members’ bikes had two headlights.
It was through this unofficial family tree that a seed of philanthropy was planted and grew into a full fledged campaign of giving back. One of the core commitments of DLP has been to always remember those that are less fortunate than we. It has also been a commitment to go into our communities and extend a guiding hand to inner-city youth through mentorship. In 1998 Double Lyte Posse incorporated, under the name of Double Lyte Posse Sportbike, Inc. In 2005 DLP was granted the classification of a 501(c)3 Non Profit Organization, under the name of Double Lyte Posse Sportbike M/C of Pennsylvania.
In 2006 Double Lyte Posse met Patricia Redmond, a conscientious philanthropist, at a rally in Harrisburg, assembled for the purpose of halting gun sales in Pennsylvania. It was through Patricia “Pat” Redmond that DLP met Councilwoman, Donna Reed Miller, 8th District, Police Commissioner, Sylvester Johnson and a host of other dignitaries. In the months to follow DLP began volunteer work with the Philadelphia Public Schools System’s Safe Corridor Project, in conjunction with Pat. Double Lyte Posse also began to take the lead in motorcades to the funerals of children that have been victims of the senseless violence that continues to permeate our streets. Thanks to Patricia Redmond, Double Lyte Posse has also become an active participant in the Town Watch Integrated Services Program. One or our greatest achievements to date is the receipt of the Town Watch Integrated Services, Volunteer of the Year Award. DLP believes in keeping awareness elevated and has participated in the following walks and rallies:
Philadelphia Aids Walk Breast Cancer: Walk for the Cure Breast Cancer Committee Members: Ride for the Cure Philadelphia Stop the Violence Town Watch Integrated Services: National Night Out Philadelphia Public Schools: Truancy Program Jena Six 10,000 Men: A New Day in Philadelphia
In an effort to stay connected to the communities from which we come, we, Double Lyte Posse Sportbike MC of PA, continually strive to give to those less fortunate than ourselves. We give in a variety of capacities, such as monetary, time, food, supplies, etc. We also participate in other charitable events and donations sponsored by fellow motorcycle clubs. Over the past fifteen years Double Lyte Posse has successfully grown in membership, and both community and civic affiliations. It is through these affiliations that Double Lyte Posse has become a key player in the war against crime. Determined to change preconceived notions of bikers, DLP continues to volunteer in multiple capacities for various charity events annually.
Double Lyte Posse will remain steadfast in their determination to give the next thirteen years twice as much impact as the last thirteen years. DLP’s primary focus will remain solidifying themselves as staples in their respective communities and becoming synonymous with the word “philanthropy”. DLP will never fall prey to the trap of “watching our city change”, but will continue fighting for change through the example of continual action and mentorship.
