Let's give our "Fallen" rider a moment of silence... I hurt, EVERY February, March and April... I, ummm... I'm trying to find a politically correct way of voicing how I feel about riders, typically with less than 5 yrs. seat time become a statistic before they can even BEGIN to appreciate the benefits of being apart of this beautiful sub-culture. Sorry, can't think of one... So I'll lay it on the line, it's BULLSHIT! I read the yahoogroups every year around this time when people such as Lady Ninja, Seven, Butta, and Ms. Kaye to name a few plead and admonish their families to be mindful of the road conditions, the conditions of the tires, the general public's lack of awareness (particularly during the WINTER months). They preach about safety and patience. They talk about the sorrow and the financial burdens placed on these rider's families. But you know... "We REAL ridaz"! Our cruiser family and living legends, please allow this moment. I'm venting to the sportsriders and "diaper dans" of the set...
Let's Break down a "Real Rider" for a moment. Correct me, someone, if I'm wrong... A "Real Rider" would logically embrace every reason to get home safely, he/she would determine the elements first. For example... Open the front door, get a chill, it's cold. If your skin, which is highly adaptable to weather change finds that it's cold, imagine how the asphalt feels. Thanks to cold winters, asphalt can buckle or heave with frost, or break up to cause some serious potholes. Additionally, ruts in the road can make it difficult to steer, as can wet asphalt which can be slippery. Common sense would tell MOST people at this time it would be smarter to drive. I have to ask... What are ya'll trying to prove? You want to ride year long? Show me something! Make some real money, and move your throttle happy ass someplace the the sun shines all the time!
Let's set aside "The Real Rider" term and start using "The SMART rider" title. Be responsible for your actions. Even if you don't care about yourself, think of your mate (you know the one you don't want to find out about your jumpoff...), think about your parents, your children, your siblings, and US, your extended family. I understand the possibility of accidents but when you can think twice you can ALWAYS avoid stupidity.
