MOTORCYCLE CHECKPOINTS IN GEORGIA DURING BIKE WEEK
All though there isn’t a clear answer of how, what, where, and when…Attorney Mitch Prono (who filed suit in New York) and Linda Allen (Legislative for ABATE of Georgia) spoke on All Riders Radio, explained how these Motorcycle Only Check Points originated in the State of New York, and a letter for the Grant was sent to EVERY State thereafter. The State of Georgia was the 1st State to apply for the Grant, receiving $70,000.00 to conduct the Motorcycle Only Check Points. It is expected with Tens of Thousands of motorcyclist heading to Daytona for Bike Week (March 4-13, 2011), this will be the prime target of motorcyclist. While Linda Allen (ABATE of Georgia) states they are trying to gather as much information as possible, setting up call lines, alerts, etc.,
Mitch Prono, Esq., states if they follow the patterns of how things were done in New York, they anticipate that they will target the bikers at the exits where rest areas are located. They will be a sign directing ALL motorcyclist to pull over at the next exit, at which point they will conduct the Motorcycle Only Check Points, checking for, but not limited to such things as, U.S. DOT-compliant helmets, legal exhaust systems, and compliance with licensing, registration and inspection regulations, etc.
Linda Allen (ABATE of Georgia) is urging all Motorcyclist to document such stops. With that being said, we as motorcyclist must understand how vital our cell phones are (take pictures, videos, post, email, text and blast these check points) warn a motorcyclist. If you are stopped or ticketed, and sent on your way…it DOESN’T stop there. It’s very important to contact ABATE of Georgia (770) 881-7438 -
http://www.abatega.org/ In order to defeat this and other type of violation of our Constitutional Rights, we as motorcyclist MUST get involved and DEFEND our rights to ride. Please DO NOT minimize the fact that this is happening in the State of Georgia. We must remember that this very same letter of invitation has been sent to EVERY State, and it can very well end up in your State. We MUST become Proactive, get involved with your local ABATE or MRO’s.
Defending our right to ride starts with each one of us….If we DON’T become part of the Solution, we are part of the PROBLEM!
